Palermo's
airport is at
Punta Raisi, 31km west of the
city, from where fairly regular
buses run into the centre,
stopping outside the Politeama
Garibaldi theatre on Piazza
Ruggero Séttimo, and finally
outside the
Hotel Elena ,
at the Stazione Centrale; the
first bus is at 5am, the last
departure timed for the last
flight arrival (17 daily, a 45min
journey; L7500/3.90; enquiries tel
091.580.457). Note that for the
return journey, departures leave
every thirty minutes from 5am to
about 10.30pm from outside the
Hotel
Elena , and follow the same
route. Taxi fares for the same
trip run to around L65,000/33.80
per car, though you might be able
to negotiate a lower price.
Trains all pull in at
the Stazione Centrale (24hr train
enquiries tel 147.888.088), at the
southern end of Via Roma, close to
the cheap accommodation; buses
#101 and #102, and two circular
minibus services - linea gialla
and linea rossa - connect
with the modern city from outside
the station.
Country- and island-wide buses
serve terminals all over Palermo:
AST operate out of Piazza Lolli
and Via Balsamo for Bagheria,
Corleone, Módica and Ragusa;
Cuffaro services depart from Via
P. Balsamo 13 for Agrigento; SAIS
leave from Via P. Balsamo 16 for
Rome, Caltanissetta, Catania, Enna,
Piazza Armerina, Messina, Siracusa,
Noto, Cefalù and Términi Imerese;
and Segesta go from Via P. Balsamo
26 (for Rome and Trápani).All ferry and hydrofoil
services dock at the Stazione
Maríttima,
just off Via Francesco Crispi,
from where it's a ten-minute walk
up Via E. Amari to Piazza
Castelnuovo.
