In an attempt to make sure
that tourists go to see
more than just the Palazzo
Ducale and San Marco, the
entry charges for several
museums have been combined
in one ticket called
I
Musei di Piazza San Marco
. Costing L18,000/?9.30,
the ticket allows one
visit to each of the
following attractions
before the end of the year
in which you buy the
ticket: Palazzo Ducale,
Museo Correr, Museo
Archeologico, Biblioteca
Marciana, Palazzo Mocenigo,
Museo del Merletto (Burano)
and Museo del Vetro (Murano).
It's available at the
Correr and Palazzo Ducale,
each of which can be
visited only with the
Musei di San Marco ticket
(the Museo Archeologico
and Biblioteca Marciana
are now annexes of the
Correr, and thus also
require a combined
ticket); at the other
places you have the option
of paying an entry charge
just for that attraction.
In addition, thirteen
churches that charge for
entry (either to the whole
structure or just part -
usually the sacristy) are
now part of the Chorus
Pass scheme, whereby a
L15,000/?7.75 ticket
allows one visit to each
of the churches over a
one-year period. The
individual entrance fee at
each of the participating
churches is L3000/?1.55,
and all the churches
(except for the variants
given below) observe the
same opening hours: Monday
to Saturday 10am to 5pm,
and Sunday 1 to 5pm
(except in July and
August, when all except
the Frari are closed to
tourists). The churches
involved are: Santa Maria
del Giglio; Santo Stefano;
Santa Maria Formosa; Santa
Maria dei Miracoli; the
Frari (Mon-Sat 9am-6pm,
Sun 1-6pm); San Polo; San
Giacomo dell'Orio; San
Stae; Sant'Alvise; Madonna
dell'Orto; San Pietro di
Castello; Redentore; and
San Sebastiano (Mon-Sat
10am-5pm, Sun 3-5pm - but
often closed Sun in
winter).
The opening hours
listed below are the
latest available times of
the major tourist museums
and monuments, but bear in
mind that they are prone
to sudden, inexplicable
alterations, especially in
winter, when afternoon
opening hours are
frequently truncated.
An asterisk after the
price indicates that a
concessionary rate is
available for students who
can prove their status;
under-12s are entitled to
reductions at nearly all
attractions, provided they
are accompanied by an
adult. Visitors from EU
countries who can prove
they are aged under 18 or
over 65 are entitled to
free admission at the
city's state-owned museums
- ie the Accademia, Ca'
d'Oro, Museo Archeologico
and Museo Orientale.
